                          -  History & Geography  -

The Bonita Valley Farm and Rose Peak Ranch are nestled in the picturesque Bonita Valley at the foothills of the Winchester mountains. The Ranch and Farm was once home to the Pueblo people during the 13th century.

Vasquez de Coronado’s Spanish exploration party crossed through the valley in 1540 as they explored the southwest.

The properties are located in Cochise County (named after the famous Apache chief) in the Southeastern Corner of the State of Arizona. The Bonita valley is high desert grassland with an elevation of 4,500 feet. The ranch runs from the foothills of the Winchester mountains to the grassland valleys.

Several dramatic mountain ranges run through the county.  The highest peak, at an elevation of 10,700 feet, is in the Graham Mountains across the valley; it is home to the worlds largest telescope. Cochise County is an ecological crossroads, where habitats and species from the Sierra Madre of Mexico, the Rocky Mountains, and the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts all can be found.  The abrupt rise of mountains from the grasslands creates 11 sky "islands" harboring rare species and communities of plants and animals. This southeastern part of Arizona is rich in history, natural wonders, birds and native vegetation. The one hour drive from Tucson or three hours from Phoenix is well worth the trip for anyone - property buyer or sight seer.

If you type “Bonita Arizona” into Google Earth (earth.google.com) you will be in the general area of the ranch and farm they both lie to the south and west of the original community of Bonita.
